The small business administration published numerous excellent booklets, brochures and checklists on quite a large selection of businesses. These publications can be picked up through the U.S. Government Printing Office. Most local universities and private organisations hold seminars are very low costs and in some cases for free. You will always want to take advantage of the services that are offered to you through your bank and local library.
The important thing about running a small business is to know the direction in which you're heading; to know on a day-to-day basis your progress in that very direction; to be aware of what your competitors are doing and to practice good money management at all times. All this will prepare you to recognize potential problems before they arise.
In order for your small business to survive, regardless of the current economic situation, it is imperative to surround yourself with intelligent individuals and practice sound and ethical business management at all times.
