Goal setting is an imperative step whenever we seek to achieve something in life. This is for the reason that it is the goals which determine the path and one actually wishes to achieve. In the absence of measurable goals one may have to struggle endlessly and without any result as he or she will waste much time and energy. No matter if you wish to be successful in your personal or professional life, goal setting is an indispensable part of it. In other words, proper goal setting techniques ensure success and facilitates in your life.
In this regards, the concept of SMART goals is very useful. If you have SMART goals the process of making your dreams come true will become much more easy and practical. SMART goals stand for specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound.
Firstly, one needs to establish specific goals to be able to achieve them in real life. If you do not specifically know as to what you wish to achieve, how can you go after it? Pursuing our goals is only possible when you know what exactly you wish to achieve. Your goals should not be abstract concepts or ideas which cannot be achieved but concrete and precise. Ask yourself what you actually want to achieve and then pursue your goal.
Then your goal has to be measurable. By measurable we imply that your progress towards your goal can be measured so that you may come to know how far you have achieved something or not. It will also help you to keep a track of your progress.
It is very important for your goals to be attainable. Setting a goal which can never be achieved in one’s life is a mere waste of time. For example, if a disable person sets a goal of climbing a mountain, it will not attainable for him. So make sure what you what is attainable.
Your goals ought to be realistic as well. People are often taken in by imagination. They set unrealistic goals which can never be possible in real life. For this reason, while setting your goals you need to ensure they are realistic. Make sure what you want to is according to your capability, resources etc.
Lastly, your goals have to be time bound. You need to set a time for them as to how long will it take for you to achieve them. If they are not time bound, you will not feel the urge to pursue them in the right manner and thus they may never be achieved.
