By 2003, Congress had a small victory in terms of online gambling. They made it illegal to process online gambling payments via credit cards or bank wires. This act of Congress made it more difficult for people to gamble online, and began more intense reform of online gaming websites. Currently, at this point in 2008, the World Trade Organization is holding the United States to its earlier Antigua and Barbados licensing ties. The United States had tried to ban offshore gambling sites, with minimal success. The United States was found to be in the wrong regarding the earlier agreement about offshore gambling, and was forced to reconsider internet gaming sites. Internet gambling sites and online casinos have come a long way since they first started popping up in the 1990’s. Since then, online gaming sites have reported record-breaking revenues each year since their origin. The average amount a person spends on an online gaming site is estimated at $2300, an impressive amount, and nothing to be sneezed at. With the current success of online gaming websites, we can be sure we will see them flourish for a long time to come.
