What is it that holds you back from doing all that you want to in life? Do you feel you are too busy to take time away, that you cannot afford to put down your projects and spend time on yourself? Unfortunately, many people hold such beliefs about their lives that are completely untrue. Taking time for yourself may not be as essential as eating, sleeping or breathing, but when it comes to mental and spiritual health, it certainly comes in as a close second. Not all spiritual travel is life-changing in a wide-sweeping, loud, obvious manner. It might just be about having time to sit back, breathe and reconnect with yourself, the earth, and what you view as the divine.
Other people thrive on adventure- affirming life by climbing the highest mountains and continually seeking to commune with nature in the most awe-inspiring locations they can find, and if it happens to involve white water rapids or wild animals nearby, all the better. Of course, others find that their spiritual journeys tend to manifest in a more obvious manner, such as in a spiritual pilgrimage. While some set out to visit the holy sites in the world, others seek to study under a guru or teacher in a small village in a distant land. To be perfectly clear, it does not matter what form your journey takes, all that matters is that you seek to enrich your spiritual self by following whatever path feels right to you.
It would be foolish to assume that there is one trip that will awaken the higher self of anyone who goes on it. But there can be value in group trips, especially if you will be traveling internationally. Such groups may have access to or knowledge of places that an individual may not. It may also be of value to have other like-minded individuals traveling with you, both to support you and share the joy and growth you are experiencing. Many form friendships that transcend class, location and race in sharing this experience that, in retrospect may seem to be "out of time."
No matter what you choose to pursue, spiritual travel can and will change your entire life, from the way you eat to the way you think. Often, it takes visiting another culture to recognize the parts of one's own culture that are detrimental to one's health. It can also help one to see how they can combine aspects of many cultures to create a lifestyle that is truly supportive of their own highest good. Many who believe themselves to be very healthy and aware come back with a whole new sense of what that really means, and usually with the tools to create the change that they want to see in their lives. Learning new ways to interact with others is only the beginning of what spiritual travel can do on an interpersonal level. Learning the concept of universal love is something that many people could benefit from.
